The Sim

Death is supposed to be for old people. Perhaps it was meant for someone else. It certainly was not supposed to happen to you this soon: in high school.

But death was not all that it was expected to be. You have your memories. You have a nearly corporeal form of your body. You have arrived in an ethereal space and start traversing the emptiness, wandering around aimlessly, trying to determine what’s next.

You travel for an immeasurable distance and for an indeterminate amount of time. The monotony is broken by a bright light that shines down on you. A being of unsurpassed beauty appears within the light, calls you by name, and sympathizes with your early demise.

After initially being overwhelmed by the moment, you collect your thoughts and wonder why this supreme being is talking with you. After all, you just were a high school student. Certainly, you merit no special treatment. But that is when the being gives you a choice: you could be randomly reincarnated in the normal order of things or you could go to another world and try to overturn a great evil that has nearly conquered a world.

You are told that the Kingdom of Demona is barely holding back the evil and its citizens are constantly in fear of the corruption that lies outside of it. Champions have been sent to defeat the evil but they have either died or become so corrupted by the evil that they become willing or unwilling agents of the horrific forces. Should you choose to assist Demona and defeat the evilness threatening to take over the world, this being promises that you will be granted a wish.

Furthermore, should you choose to assist Demona, you would not go down without some assistance. You will be granted certain abilities inherent to those in the magical world and have the ability to read and write the common language of the kingdom. In addition to those abilities, you would be granted one godly item to assist your quest.

The temptation of any wish being granted is too great. You agree to assist Demona. After all, what is the worst that could happen? You have already died once before.
